For an operator, that shifts the hard question from supply to deployment. The units are coming. The bottleneck is moving onto your floor.

Breakdown:

The plant is tuned for **industrial humanoids**, the work-focused machines meant for factories and logistics, not the stage-demo units that filled this year's trade shows.

Liuzhou sits in Guangxi, one of China's established automobile-manufacturing hubs, so the site inherits an existing supply chain and assembly workforce rather than starting cold.

It is not a one-off: an automated humanoid line from Leju Robotics and Dongfang Precision opened in Guangdong in March 2026 at the same 10,000-unit annual target, a sign the mass-production race is now measured in factories, not prototypes.

**Takeaway:** For an operator, the constraint on humanoids is shifting from whether you can get one to whether you can deploy one safely and profitably. When units ship at 10-minute intervals, the scarce resource is no longer the robot, it is the integration work, the safety sign-off and the set of tasks a humanoid can actually do without a minder standing beside it.

### The Data Behind Humanoids Is Now a $500 Million Business

Breakdown:

Mecka collects and analyzes human-motion data, having workers film themselves making coffee or fixing cars while wearing body sensors, then sells the datasets that train humanoid and other robots.

The deal roughly triples the company's valuation in under a year and lands about three months after a $60 million round led by Framework Ventures.

Founded in 2024, Mecka projected a $100 million annual run rate as of early June, a sign that demand for robot training data is running ahead of the robots themselves.

The round sits inside a wider rush, with Scale AI and Micro1 among the players chasing the same bottleneck: real-world demonstration data that models cannot yet generate on their own.

**Takeaway:** The scarce input in humanoid robotics is no longer the hardware, it is the demonstration data that teaches a machine to do useful work. Operators weighing a humanoid should ask where its skills were trained and whether the vendor can add their specific tasks, because a robot is only as capable as the data behind it.

⏱️ The Compliance Clock

As Chinese plants begin mass-producing industrial humanoids for export, the operator who buys one and puts it to work on a European floor inherits the paperwork. Any machine placed on the EU market needs CE marking, backed by a Declaration of Conformity and a technical file that shows how its risks were assessed and controlled. Before you sign for an imported humanoid, ask the vendor to hand over that Declaration of Conformity, because without it the machine is not legal to run and the liability lands on you.

### A Chinese Startup Accuses OpenAI of Copying Its Robot Model

**Snapshot:** The CEO of Ant-backed JoyIn [published a letter](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/09/11/chinese-humanoid-robot-startup-distillation-claim-openai.html?ref=news.theresarobotforthat.com) accusing OpenAI of distilling his startup's work into its own recent model, flipping an accusation that Western labs usually aim at Chinese firms.

Breakdown:

Guo Renjie, CEO of Suzhou-based JoyIn, said OpenAI's approach echoed the "extraterrestrial visitor" AI framework his team had presented in Silicon Valley weeks before OpenAI's chief scientist published a related essay on Sept. 6.

JoyIn's Aether model uses a perception-based rather than text-based approach to control, which the company claims lets humanoids complete tasks with a 90% first-attempt success rate.

Guo said JoyIn has begun filing a lawsuit, while CNBC noted it could not independently verify the claims and that some of the concepts are common across AI research.

The dispute lands days after a US cybersecurity agency said six Chinese firms, including DeepSeek and Alibaba, had distilled models from Anthropic, Google and OpenAI.

**Takeaway:** The argument over who copied whom matters less to operators than what it reveals, that the software brain of a humanoid is now the contested asset, not the chassis. When you evaluate a robot, treat its control model and the data rights behind it as the part most likely to carry legal risk later.

AIDIN builds **force and tactile sensors**, the parts that let a robot feel contact and control its grip, and the two firms plan to co-develop a five-fingered robotic hand.

Samsung Venture Investment put a further $2.2 million into the same round, a second major Korean industrial name backing the same sensing bet.

AIDIN's technology already sits inside a humanoid it developed with CJ Logistics that was picked for South Korea's state-backed logistics-humanoid project in 2025.

HD Hyundai, the country's largest shipbuilding group, framed the deal as a way to secure core technology for physical AI rather than as a financial stake.

**Takeaway:** The hardest unsolved problem in humanoids is not walking, it is the hand and the touch that guides it. Watch which robots ship with real force and tactile sensing, because dexterity, not mobility, is what decides whether a humanoid can do fiddly work like packing, wiring or assembly.
